Imagine Learning Differently

More about Our Methodology

Together, our LearnPOD and our 3D Model of Learning deliver a learning solution which is targeted, experiential and ongoing. The origins are based on research done in 1992 by Broad and Newstrom revealing the key-relationships at the different stages of any intervention and which have been universally shown to increase the success, and return on investment, of any intervention if those three relationships are carefully observed. We also took inspiration from Ebbinghaus’ Curve of Forgetting which illustrates how we can make learning stick, as well as the 70:20:10 Principle which many organizations have adopted.

3D Learning (Design, Discover, Develop)

The 3D in our methodology is a unique L2L model which governs how we as a company approach training starting from identifying our client’s need right through to achieving their ultimate objectives. We have found this system to be the most effective at guiding the actions and decisions of both Learn to Lead as well as our client.

Design

Principle: “If you think good design is expensive, you should see the cost of bad design.” (Ralf Speth)

Methodology: In the Design phase, L2L responds to an identified client need and conducts a full requirements analysis ensuring a deep understanding of the client’s situation and the learning outcomes. We then design, tailor or recommend a suitable program to target the specific needs of the identified group. Finally in this phase we recommend engaging with both managers to ensure buy-in and support of the process, as well as with delegates to initiate some pre-thinking before the session.

‘Design’ Phase Critical Relationship: Management & L2L

Discover

Principle: “Give the students something to do, not something to learn. If the doing is of such a nature to demand thinking, learning will naturally result.” (John Dewey)

Methodology: In the Discovery phase, L2L facilitators employ experiential and discovery learning techniques which both impart knowledge as well as create an environment which supports the immediate application of the learnt information in a controlled space. L2L uses a combination of exciting activities, videos and processes (catering to all learning styles) that bring the learning to life, make it memorable and useful, thereby embedding it for future workplace application.

‘Discover’ Phase Critical Relationship: L2L & the Delegate

Develop

Principle: ‘Without knowledge, action is useless and without action, knowledge is futile.” (Abu Bakr)

Methodology: L2L views learning as a process not as an event. This means that if learning is going to stick and become useful, the important growth really starts when the training session ends. For this to occur, the manager becomes a critical part of the development process through knowledge of the program, creation of practicing opportunities, and reinforcing desired behaviours.

The LearnPOD

Learn to Lead offers as standard an integrated learning solution known as the LearnPOD. It is a framework that boosts the probability of the largest learning leap possible. It shifts the way companies look at training by building in a variety of learning elements into the learning path. These elements are not optional but rather essential for any company serious about seeing results. LearnPOD contains the optimal number of learning touch-points, driven by both technological as well as traditional methods, to ensure the learner not only remembers the subject matter, but also applies it.

The idea of a standalone ‘training day’ no longer exists, it is merely one of several important steps required for real learning to happen.

LearnPOD Is a framework which combines elements such as manager support & reinforcement, pre-work, creative associations, ambush assessments, multiple touch-points, mentoring, work-based assignments, experiential activities, interactive processes, jolts, and many others, to create a learning environment that suits the learner, not the trainer.

As Einstein said, “I never teach my pupils, I only provide the conditions in which they can learn.”

LearnPOD creates those conditions.
